Make the juiciest, most tender turkey breast without turning on your oven! This easy, hands-off slow cooker turkey recipe is perfect for weeknight dinners or freeing up space for holiday sides.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (3 to 5 pound) bone-in or boneless turkey breast
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth or water
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces (optional, for extra richness)

Instructions

  1. Combine the thyme, rosemary, sage, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. This is your herb rub.
  2. Pat the turkey breast dry with paper towels. Rub the herb mixture evenly all over the surface of the turkey breast.
  3. Place the turkey breast skin-side up in the basin of your slow cooker.
  4. Pour the chicken broth or water around the base of the turkey. If using butter, dot the butter pieces over the top of the turkey breast.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours, or on HIGH for 2.5 to 3.5 hours. Cooking time depends on the size of the turkey breast.
  6. The turkey is done when a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part registers 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  7. Carefully remove the turkey breast from the slow cooker and let it rest on a cutting board, loosely tented with foil, for 10 to 15 minutes before slicing.
  8. If you want gravy, pour the drippings from the slow cooker into a saucepan, skim off excess fat, and thicken with a cornstarch slurry if desired.
  9. Slice the turkey breast against the grain and serve immediately with your favorite sides.

Notes

  • For an even juicier result, you can place sliced onion and celery in the bottom of the slow cooker before adding the turkey.
  • This recipe is fantastic for meal prep; the leftovers make great sandwiches or salads.
  • If you are looking for an apple cider turkey breast flavor, substitute the chicken broth with apple cider.
