  • 3 lb pork shoulder roast
  • 1 (32 ounce) bag sauerkraut, drained
  • 2 medium apples, cored and sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Place the sliced onions on the bottom of your slow cooker.
  2. Place the pork roast on top of the onions.
  3. In a bowl, mix the drained sauerkraut, sliced apples, caraway seeds, pepper, and salt.
  4. Spoon the sauerkraut mixture evenly over the pork roast.
  5. Pour the chicken broth around the sides of the roast in the slow cooker.
  6. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 7 to 8 hours, or on high for 3 to 4 hours, until the pork is very tender.
  7. Remove the pork roast and shred it using two forks.
  8. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir it into the sauerkraut mixture.
  9. Serve this hearty family meal hot.
