Make this sweet, savory, and creamy Pineapple Cheese Ball for your next party. This easy, no-bake appetizer coated in crunchy pecans is a true crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup finely crushed pineapple, well drained
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans, plus 1 cup for coating
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Optional: 1/2 cup finely chopped cooked ham or bacon for savory flavor

Instructions

  1. Place the softened cream cheese in a large bowl. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add the well-drained crushed pineapple, 1/2 cup chopped pecans, green onion, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to the cream cheese. If using, mix in the chopped ham or bacon now. Mix until all ingredients are just combined. Do not overmix.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until firm enough to shape. This chilling step is key for a good cheese ball.
  4. Spread the remaining 1 cup of pecans on a shallow plate.
  5. Remove the cheese mixture from the refrigerator. Shape the mixture into a ball using your hands or a rubber spatula.
  6. Roll the cheese ball in the chopped pecans until it is completely coated.
  7. Place the coated cheese ball on a serving plate. Cover loosely and chill again for at least 1 hour before serving.
  8. Serve your Pineapple Pecan Cheese Ball with crackers, pretzels, or vegetable sticks.

Notes

  • Make sure you drain the crushed pineapple very well; excess moisture will make your cheese ball too soft to shape. Press it between paper towels if needed.
  • For a make ahead party food option, you can prepare the cheese ball completely, wrap it tightly, and keep it refrigerated for up to 3 days.
  • If you want a slightly spicy kick, add a dash of hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper to the mixture.
