Make the best bread dipping oil right at home! This easy olive oil dip mimics popular restaurant versions, combining fresh garlic, Italian herbs, and Parmesan for a flavorful appetizer ready in minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced finely
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning blend
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus extra for garnish
  • 1/4 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Crusty bread, sourdough, or focaccia for dipping

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients. You want this dip ready fast, so have everything measured out.
  2. In a shallow serving dish or bowl, pour the extra virgin olive oil.
  3. Add the minced fresh garlic, Italian seasoning, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using) directly into the oil.
  4. Stir the spices and garlic into the oil gently. Let this mixture sit for at least 2 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse the oil. This step is key for a restaurant style bread dip.
  5. Just before serving, sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper over the top of the oil mixture.
  6. Serve immediately with warm, crusty bread for dipping. Garnish with a light dusting of extra Parmesan cheese if desired.

Notes

  • For an even bolder flavor, you can gently warm the olive oil and spices in a small saucepan over low heat for 1 minute, then let it cool slightly before adding the Parmesan.
  • If you prefer a balsamic kick, add 1 tablespoon of good quality balsamic vinegar to the oil mixture.
