Ingredients
Scale
1 package (12 count) Hawaiian sweet rolls
8 slices sharp cheddar cheese, thinly sliced
4 slices Monterey Jack cheese, thinly sliced
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dried onion powder
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Slice the entire package of Hawaiian rolls horizontally, keeping the rolls connected in one piece.
Place the bottom half of the rolls in the prepared baking dish.
Layer the cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese slices evenly over the bottom half of the rolls. You can add thin slices of ham or bacon here if you like for a ham and cheese slider variation.
Place the top half of the rolls over the cheese.
In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with the garlic powder and onion powder. Brush this mixture evenly over the top of the rolls.
Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake for 15 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for another 5 to 7 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
Let the sandwiches rest for 5 minutes before slicing between the individual rolls. Serve warm.
Notes
For an extra gooey texture, use a mix of cheeses like Gruyère or Provolone along with cheddar.
These are great served with a side of warm tomato soup for dipping.
If you prefer a pan-fried method for crispier edges, assemble the sandwiches, brush the outside with butter, and grill in a skillet over medium heat until golden brown on both sides.
