Make the famous, extra buttery and garlicky Hawaiian garlic shrimp right in your kitchen. This quick shrimp recipe delivers the bold island flavor you crave, perfect served over rice to soak up the rich sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Cooked white rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Pat the shrimp completely dry using paper towels. Season the shrimp lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the olive oil and butter. Let the butter melt completely.
  3. Add the minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown.
  4. Increase the heat to medium-high. Add the seasoned shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side until the shrimp turn pink and opaque. Avoid overcrowding the pan; cook in batches if necessary.
  5. Once the shrimp is cooked, reduce the heat to low. Stir in the lemon juice, paprika, and oregano. Toss everything together until the shrimp is fully coated in the garlicky butter sauce.
  6. Remove the skillet from the heat immediately.
  7. Serve the hawaiian garlic shrimp hot over generous portions of cooked white rice. Spoon extra garlic butter sauce from the pan over the rice.
  8. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For an island kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the butter mixture when sautéing the garlic.
  • If you want a low carb hawaiian shrimp option, skip the rice and serve this garlicky shrimp skillet with steamed vegetables instead.
  • To achieve a slightly crispy garlic shrimp texture, ensure your shrimp is very dry before cooking and use high heat for a quick sear.
