- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/4 cup red wine (optional)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 brioche buns, toasted
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
- Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook until caramelized (about 20 minutes).
- Push onions to the side and add ground beef. Cook until browned.
- Deglaze the pan with beef broth and red wine, scraping up browned bits.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, thyme, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer until thickened (about 10 minutes).
- Toast buns, spoon the beef mixture on top, and sprinkle with cheese. Broil until cheese melts.
Notes
- For deeper flavor, caramelize onions slowly on low heat.
- Use a mix of beef and pork for extra richness.
- Swap red wine for balsamic vinegar if preferred.
