Make restaurant-style Asian Garlic Noodles right at home in just 20 minutes. This recipe uses simple pantry staples to create a savory, buttery sauce coated with fresh garlic and Parmesan cheese for ultimate comfort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound spaghetti or linguine noodles
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the noodles according to package directions until al dente. Before draining, reserve about 1 cup of the starchy pasta water. Drain the noodles and set aside.
  2. While the noodles cook, prepare the sauce. In a large skillet or wok, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the minced garlic to the melted butter and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Do not let the garlic burn.
  4. Stir in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes, if using. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  5. Add about 1/2 cup of the reserved pasta water to the sauce mixture and bring it to a gentle simmer. This helps create a glossy sauce.
  6. Add the cooked, drained noodles to the skillet. Toss well to coat every strand evenly with the sauce.
  7. Remove the skillet from the heat. Sprinkle in the Parmesan cheese and toss again until the cheese melts and the sauce thickens slightly, coating the noodles beautifully. Add a splash more pasta water if the noodles seem too dry.
  8. Serve the Asian Garlic Noodles immediately. Garnish generously with fresh green onions and extra Parmesan cheese.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute half the butter with unsalted butter.
  • You can easily turn this into a complete meal by adding cooked shrimp or shredded chicken during the final tossing step.
  • If you want a stronger umami flavor, add 1 teaspoon of fish sauce to the sauce mixture.
