Make restaurant-style Bang Bang Shrimp at home! This easy recipe uses an air fryer for crispy shrimp tossed in a creamy, sweet, and spicy sauce. It is perfect as a quick appetizer or a flavorful weeknight shrimp dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • For the Homemade Bang Bang Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Sriracha (adjust for spice preference)
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Pat the shrimp completely dry using paper towels. This step helps achieve crispy shrimp.
  2. In a medium bowl, toss the dried shrimp with olive oil, cornstarch, salt, and pepper until lightly coated.
  3. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (195°C).
  4. Arrange the coated shrimp in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
  5. Air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping the shrimp halfway through, until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  6. While the shrimp cooks, prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, Sriracha, honey, rice vinegar, and garlic powder until smooth. This creates your signature spicy creamy shrimp sauce.
  7. Place the hot, crispy air fryer shrimp in a large bowl. Pour the homemade Bang Bang Sauce over the shrimp and toss gently until every piece is coated.
  8. Serve immediately as an appetizer or over rice for a weeknight shrimp dinner.

Notes

  • For an even crispier texture, you can lightly spray the coated shrimp with cooking spray before air frying.
  • If you prefer deep-frying over air frying, heat 1-2 inches of neutral oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry the shrimp for 2-3 minutes until golden.
  • If you want to make Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos, serve these sauced shrimp in warm tortillas with shredded cabbage or slaw.
