Make these incredibly easy apple dumplings using store-bought crescent rolls for a quick, comforting fall dessert. They bake in a rich brown sugar glaze for classic flavor without the fuss.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium baking apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 package (8 count) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup Sprite or lemon-lime soda

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Peel, core, and quarter the apples.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon together. Toss the apple quarters in this mixture until they are evenly coated.
  4. Unroll the crescent roll dough. Separate the triangles. Place one cinnamon-sugar coated apple quarter near the wide end of a triangle.
  5. Roll the dough up around the apple, starting from the wide end, to fully enclose the apple. Pinch the seams together to seal.
  6. Place the wrapped apple dumplings, seam-side down, in the prepared baking dish.
  7. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar, butter, and Sprite. Stir constantly until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved. Do not boil.
  8. Pour the brown sugar glaze evenly over the apple dumplings in the baking dish.
  9. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and the sauce is bubbly.
  10. Let the apple dumplings cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

  • For an extra rich sauce, you can substitute the Sprite with apple juice or even a cup of melted caramel sauce mixed with a little water.
  • Serve these warm apple dumplings with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the best comfort food dessert experience.
  • If you are looking for a more traditional, old-fashioned apple dumpling, you can make your own pastry dough instead of using crescent rolls.
