  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup strong brewed espresso, cooled
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch cake pan.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and spices in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until light. Add eggs one at a time.
  4. Mix in espresso, buttermilk, and vanilla.
  5. Fold in dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Pour batter into pan and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  7. Cool before frosting.
