A traditional apple pie recipe with a flaky crust and spiced apple filling, perfect for holidays and special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 68 tbsp ice water
  • 67 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, diced
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Mix flour and salt in a bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Add ice water, 1 tbsp at a time, until dough forms. Divide into two discs, wrap, and chill for 1 hour.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out one dough disc and fit into a 9-inch pie dish.
  4. Toss apples with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Fill the pie crust.
  5. Dot with diced butter. Roll out the second dough disc and place over filling. Seal edges and cut slits.
  6. Brush with egg wash. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for balanced flavor.
  • Chill dough before rolling for easier handling.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
