Bake these soft, chewy Christmas Sprinkle Sugar Cookies. They are easy to make, require no dough chilling, and are packed with festive red and green sprinkles for the perfect holiday treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup Christmas sprinkles (red, green, and white mix)
  • Extra sprinkles for rolling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This step builds the base for your soft baked cookies.
  2. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until just combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Fold in the 1/2 cup of Christmas sprinkles gently.
  6. Place extra sprinkles on a shallow plate. Roll the dough into balls, about 1 inch in diameter. Roll each ball in the extra sprinkles until coated.
  7. Place the dough balls onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper, leaving about 2 inches between them. Flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft. These are your chewy sprinkle cookies.
  9. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For the best bakery style sugar cookies texture, measure your flour by spooning it into the measuring cup and leveling it off.
  • These are excellent for kids Christmas baking activities since they are so simple.
  • If you prefer a slightly crisper edge, bake for an additional minute.
  • These cookies freeze well before or after baking.
