Make this easy and refreshing Christmas Sangria for your holiday gatherings. It is packed with seasonal fruit and warming spices, making it a crowd-pleasing holiday party cocktail.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750ml) dry red wine (like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon)
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur (like Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • 1/2 cup orange juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup (or to taste)
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 apple (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji), cored and sliced
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 cup club soda or sparkling water (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Combine the red wine, brandy, orange liqueur, orange juice, and simple syrup in a large pitcher. Stir well to mix the liquids.
  2. Add the sliced orange, apple slices, cranberries, and cinnamon sticks to the pitcher. Gently stir the fruit into the wine mixture.
  3. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight. This chilling time allows the fruit flavors to infuse the wine, creating the best Christmas Sangria flavor.
  4. When ready to serve, taste the sangria and adjust sweetness if needed.
  5. Pour the sangria into glasses filled with ice. Top each glass with a splash of club soda or sparkling water for extra effervescence, if desired. Garnish with extra fruit or a fresh rosemary sprig.

Notes

  • For a White Christmas Sangria variation, substitute the red wine with a dry white wine like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc, and use white cranberry juice instead of fresh cranberries.
  • You can prepare this make ahead Christmas cocktail up to 24 hours in advance for easy entertaining.
  • If you enjoy a stronger flavor, add an extra splash of brandy when serving.
