Make the best chocolate brownie cookies that taste just like fudgy brownies but in a chewy cookie form. This easy recipe delivers rich chocolate flavor, soft centers, and irresistible crackly tops, ready in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chunks (optional, for extra richness)
  • Flaky sea salt, for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.
  3. Whisk in the eggs one at a time until the mixture is smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed or by hand until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and dark chocolate chunks. The batter will be thick, like brownie batter.
  7. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.
  8. If using, sprinkle a few flakes of sea salt over the top of each dough ball.
  9. Bake for 10 to 13 minutes. The edges should look set, but the centers will still look slightly soft and gooey. This ensures a fudgy center.
  10. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy these decadent chocolate dessert treats!

Notes

  • For the best crackly tops, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking. This helps the cookies set faster on the outside.
  • If you want a truly gourmet browkie experience, use high-quality cocoa powder.
  • These cookies freeze well. Place cooled cookies in an airtight container between layers of parchment paper.
