- 1 (1-inch thick) steak (ribeye, sirloin, or NY strip)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Pat the steak dry with paper towels.
- Rub olive oil on both sides of the steak.
- Season evenly with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.
- Heat a cast-iron or oven-safe skillet over high heat for 2 minutes.
- Sear the steak for 2 minutes per side.
- Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 6-8 minutes for medium-rare (internal temp 135°F/57°C).
- Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
